On 9–10 June 2026, the European Defence Agency (EDA) CapTech Materials & Structures meeting was successfully held in Cádiz, Spain, hosted and organised by Navantia in collaboration with Tecnalia.
This event gathered leading experts from public administrations, industry, research centres and universities across Europe, aiming to foster cooperation and advance key technologies in the field of defence materials and structures.
Within this framework, the ADMIRABLE project was presented as part of the European Defence Fund (EDF) research portfolio. The presentation highlighted the project’s contribution to the development of next-generation multifunctional materials for naval defence applications, bridging the gap between research and industrial implementation.
ADMIRABLE’s approach focuses on the design and manufacturing of advanced composite-based solutions that enhance naval platform capabilities, including improved survivability, reduced signatures, and increased energy efficiency. By addressing real operational needs and promoting industrial readiness, the project reinforces the link between innovation and deployment in future naval systems. m to engage with key stakeholders, enabling discussions on technological challenges, capability gaps, and future research priorities. In this context, ADMIRABLE contributes to strengthening European collaboration and supporting the development of a resilient and competitive defence materials value chain.
In addition to the technical sessions, participants had the opportunity to visit Navantia’s facilities, including the Puerto Real shipyard and the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Innovation Centre (CFA), showcasing cutting-edge industrial capabilities in automated production, robotics and additive manufacturing.
The successful organisation of the event by Navantia highlights its leading role in European defence innovation and reinforces its commitment to advancing material technologies for next-generation naval platforms.
